[GreenKeys] "Klein" Repair?

I'm a member of the group, the Maritime Radio Historical Society, that has restored ex-RCA coast station KPH to operation. We operate our own coast station, KSM, each Saturday using all the original KPH equipment.

We have several Kleinschmidt ("Klines", as they were called) two level Wheatstone perforators that were used to make the station "wheel", a loop of tape with the repeating message stating that KPH was open for traffic and what frequencies the station was listening on.

That function was accomplished by an A-TRONIX keyboard during the last years of station operation, as it is now. But we'd like to put the Kleins back in service.

They work now. They punch tape and try to pull the tape through the machine. But the sprocket holes get torn up and even with manual pulling we can't get a properly punched tape.

We're good at fixing transmitters, antennas and receivers but not so good at this type of equipment. I wonder if anyone on the list might be willing to go through one of our Kleins (books available)?

We use Boehme keying heads to read the tapes. These need a bit of work too since the pins tend to punch their own holes in the tape.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Regards,

RD
