[GreenKeys] Radio Shack Parts

Hi Tom:

When they stopped publishing the catalog the hand writing was on the wall.
The book by radio shack's founder "to catch a mouse made a noise like a cheese"
spelled out why they did not have cash registers and why the catalog was for
both the customers AND the employees. It seems the current management has not
read it.

My local store is very much like the other responses, i.e. they only know cell
phones and even if the on line stock check says they have a part, it's
typically not to be found. With the current gas prices it's just not even
worth a drive to find out.

Mouser now offers USPS Priority mail as a shipping option which means $4.60 for
up to one pound of stuff (a little more for heavier packages). But don't order
any hazmat items like flux pens on the same order or your whole order gets
bumped to UPS. Mouser has no minimum, but in order to keep the shipping
expense from swamping the parts I typically order more than what is really
needed.

My distributor page also has some comments on those who have been not so good
to deal with: http://www.prc68.com/I/Dist.shtml

--- catagory 1 ---- top drawer ----
Digikey
Mouser
Jameco
McMaster Carr
----OK-- but not as user friendly ---
Olander
Newark Farnell
Allied
Arrow
Powell
Techni-Tool
more details on the web page.

Have Fun,

Brooke Clarke
