The radio station at the college I attended (Susquehanna Univ, Selinsgrove,
PA, WQSU-FM) in 1986 still had a Model 15 banging out one of the news
wires. I wasn't a media major so never had reason to be in the radio
station, but once in my senior year I had to take something for some reason
to one of the media prof's office which was in the radio station area of
the student center. It was kind of a rabbit warren layout, and was
actually the old computer center. On my way back to the exit I heard this
familiar klunk-klunka-klunk-klunk, though at the time I wasn't terribly
familiar with Teletype gear yet -- I was only licensed two years at that
point. My "elmer" in ham radio had a Model 19 that I had heard run before
so I knew the sound of a 15/19. Anyway, I followed the noise and tucked in
around a corner at the end of the one long hallway was this well-worn
looking Model 15 RO clattering away with current news spewing forth from
same. It seemed kind of out of place with the reasonably current radio
station that at the time had just moved into the student center quarters
from an old university-owned house, but I still thought it was pretty cool.
