Hi

I have a couple of RF-590's in the basement. I would love to upgrade  
them to 590A's.

My guess is that if you turn the radios on you will come up with  
"self test error" on the front panel. There's a rechargeable battery  
buried deep in the front panel assembly. When it runs out of juice  
the CMOS that holds the channel data comes up dead on the power on  
self test. It's a chore to replace, simply because you need to dig in  
to get at it.
