[GreenKeys] Weird 33 keyboard problem

Charles,

Reads like something is binding. Try watching the movement of the
contact wires carefully while depressing known good keys and then the
ones that are causing the problem. Also look for any wires that look
bent or might have a spring missing or loose on one end. A couple of
other associated items to check would be to make sure the shipping
screw has been removed from under the base that screws into the frame
of the typing unit. Also check for proper adjustment of the H (trip)
lever that trips the distributor. Since the 33 is all wired in
parallel odd troubles are the norm. You might even have a contact
out of position in the tape reader or the answerback drum contacts.

I never enjoyed working on 33s. Good luck and 73

I'm having a weird problem with the keyboard on one of my 33s. In
short, some keys (but not all) don't output their shifted
character, just the non-shifted one. For example:

The SHIFT key works properly on numbers keys (but not the entire
top row, the - = won't shift).

base 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 : -
shift ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * -

Note that the : * key works but not the - = key...

The P @ and the ; + keys do work properly.

And finally K L N M , . / entirely refuse to shift to the
expected [ \ ^ ] < > ?

but just print the unshifted character.

I'm having trouble figuring out what contact wire(s) could be
causing some characters to shift but not others... any ideas?

thanks
Charles
