The best way to renew the ribbon for the UGC-74B or C is to carefully  
pry the cartridge open and replace the entire ribbon loop with a new  
ribbon loop removed from a EPSON ribbon cartridge.  Then snap the  
cartridge back together again.  After you do it the first time you  
will become an expert.

I still have a brand new UGC-74B with no ribbon cartridge which makes  
it about as valuable as a boat anchor for a large boat.
