Boy did I mis-read your first post... the machine is NOT running
open... so please disregard all the loop-current stuff..

if the motor is running, but the machine is still - and there is no loop
current, then is the selector magnet stuck? is the motor actually turning
the typing unit shaft?

When you press a key, does the transmitter unclutch and the cams scan
the contacts?

With the power off, can you rotate the motor by hands, and does the rest
of the machine turn with it?

This will narrow it down, but perhaps the first place to look is to be
sure the range-finder is in the middle of it's range (as was just
suggested) and that the magnet aramture is free.

It's still possible that there is a small loop supply 'hiding'
soomewhere, and it's not wired (or switched) in series with the keyboard.

   Cheers
