Targeting, artillery - most all of the hardware from that era had more in
common with Babbage's Difference Engine than with the very early electronic
machines being developed for Bletchley Park.
Nevertheless, they could do a single task very well.
But no, not really something you could call ancestors of ENIAC, MANIAC, et
al.
