Yeah.  This is when you wish you had a time machine and you could go back
to about 1928 and whisper in Sterling Morton's ear, "Make the platen an
inch wider on the Model 15 so you can have sprocket feed and the paper
will still be 8-1/2 inches wide when you tear off the sprocket feed
strips."  Or the same to Walt Zenner circa 1946, "Make the new Model 28
an inch wider, and you'll get more stunt box slots to boot."  It was
quite a job to retrofit the sprocket feed mechanism for 9-1/2"
paper, barely possible.

It was Bell System customers who demanded sprocket feed paper back
when the Model 15 was being designed.  The original sprocket feed
design infringed a patent of Standard Register Co., so some AT&T
people had to design a mechanism that got around the patent.  Now
in hindsight, Standard Register should have said, "sure, go ahead and
use our patent royalty free, because we will sell lots of sprocket
feed forms to the customers who use your machines."
