Bob,

Put something between the contacts to keep them from operating
(usually some insulating sleeving, tape, etc.). These contacts
short out the keyboard contacts. This feature is a throwback
to the old telegraph days when the receiving operator would open
the switch on his key to let the sending operator know he
needs something repeated (he would "break" the continuity of the
sender's key and the series "sounders"; the sender's sounder
would stop working). On TTY's, opening
the circuit (a "break") makes the machine run open and the
contacts then short the keyboard, letting the typing party know
the receiving party needs a repeat......You don't want
to ruin the resale value(!) by taking out parts.

73,
Jack WA2HWJ
