After listening to the Essex "Easier Said Than Done" as provided on 
the knology link, there is indeed an effect, a click, if you will, 
that does ring of a 28 running close to machine speed.

Having played with many teletype machines, and playing drums for a 
time as well, I do believe the sound is actually something like a set 
of Hi-hat cymbals, thin ones, locked and with the stick hitting about 
half-way up the curvature of the cymbal. It is not the bell of the 
cymbal because it would have a bit of a "dink" in the sound.

Ya know, all of the chatter about the music, machines, etc., sounds 
like a bunch of geezers sitting around the cracker barrel and the 
wood stove down at the general store, talkin' 'bout dem old times...

And ya know what? I am enjoying the hell out of it. Go ahead and shut 
me down, Mr. Gil...  Be a poop if ya wants.  If I hadn't of used all 
of my oil on them there tellytype masheens, I'd soak the wheels of my 
walker and amble on down to Arizony and whack yez on yer gourd with 
my bamboo cane!!!
