I guess if he's not familiar with these units - he may not realize how
easy they break down - three boxes (autotyper, keyboard and cabinet)
would do it - UPS (and I think FedEx Ground) take up to 70 pounds per
box...

Considering some of the information about possible sources - and some
incredibly kind offers I've received - I'm going to pass on the ones on
ebay right now.
As noted - I've been kicking myself for letting a really nice 28 get
away - it was in wonderful shape - been completely tricked out (had it's
own loop supply, fluorescent copy light, three speed gearbox, about a
dozen options on the stunt box; etc., a complete working spare
autotyper, and a ton of spare parts. I let a radio station talk me out
of it - but with the understanding if they decided to get rid of it - I
had first shot. Well - after they went to satellite for news - the 28
disappeared. I *think* I know who wound up with it - but it's probably
better that I don't *know*.
I've been asked about the one I have- I had a chance to pick it up for
less than $30.00 - and it was just for parts. It would take major work
to restore it (I guarantee - anyone getting it to work would be a
Teletype Expert when they were done)! here is a picture:

Actually - it's not as bad as it looks - most of what looks like rust is
actually just a nasty layer of accumulated "crud" - there is some rust -
but not too bad. There has been some "robbing" here and there - it will
be a nice source of parts.
I probably shouldn't have bought it - with it sitting in the living room
- Sherry and I both are getting an itch for "that smell and sound".
Maybe a road trip is in our future?
best regards...
