[GreenKeys] Scope vs Lavoris

    Buck;

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us based on your many years of
experience. I can "hear" RY's in a signal, even if I can't discern all the
fine points you can. I also enjoy the sounds (and smells) of the original
teletype equipment.

    I have found the "waterfall" display of computer programs such as MMTTY
to contain much useful information. It's easy to see the shift of the
signal, and how the tones are tuned-in relative to the passband of the
radio, among other things.

    I'm not advocating the use of "glass teletypes", but with old laptop
computers available for almost nothing at hamfests, they make good
displays, probably much cheaper than a scope display. Just feed some of the
audio into the sound card and download the free software and go.

    I'd be interested to hear opinions on this.
