Well I didn't mean to imply that Irv Hoff was anything short in the
smarts department - just that he was not a practicing engineer like
Vic Poor was.

And yes, I had forgotten the name of Hank Scharfe, but I would guess
that his inspiration came from all the ideas about T.U. design that
were floating around in SoCal during the years that Merrill Swan
was publishing RTTY.
