[GreenKeys] RTTY Art?

Hi:

On eBay item 180134849480 there are some RTTY art tapes.  No images are shown, 
just the tapes in cans with labels.  I remember seeing some of these that were 
almost photograph quality when viewed from a distance and wonder how they were 
made?

With a modern computer you could scan a photograph and for each character 
position choose what character to print based on the photo density and make 
some nice images.  But these were done BPC (before PC) by hand and eye as far 
as I know.
