You can see me operating a similar AT&T terminal at my transmission
testing lab in Carlsbad, CA on my photo site:
Eventually we replaced it with a terminal program on a Pee Cee.

Model 40 and 45 equipment had several problems...
1. Too expensive
2. Too much heat causing premature failures
3. Too many different models, all with very special application
software/firmware.
4. Lack of using standard industry components (Teletype made many of
their own integrated electronics)
5. The printers used a special common language that was adapted to
what ever the customer used... clever, but difficult on maintenance.

Model 40s were actually used on the refit for the USS New Jersey.

The Model 54 and above were made overseas and are a different animal
entirely. They are fairly reliable terminals. However with age they
tend to keep loosing their settings and have to be reprogrammed.
