The Western Union machine is a 100 series machine that they
contracted Underwood to build for them. They had paper handling
problems like the Model 26 you are writing about. The Model 26 was
made by Teletype and sold to the Bell System for their manual
teletypewriter exchange system. The 26 was economical to build but
difficult to maintain. Most were taken out of service by the early
fifties. The Western union 101, 102, 103 and 104 usually had a small
book inside the cabinet with maintenance information and schematic
diagrams. The M26 manuals are hard to come by. Few people have the
machines and fewer have the manuals.
