Thanks for the suggestions, I think it's back to XP for the new PC!

Ron,

IMHO, Vista is just as bad as Windows ME! XP might be old hat and becoming an antique, but it works. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a statement that the folks at Redmond, WA should take to heart.

As an IT professional, I also have to recommend you stay with XP. Neither the company I work for, or any of our clients are looking at Vista as a viable upgrade option as there are just too many bugs to be worked out of it.

You can still get brand new Dell Computers, both desktops and laptops, with XP on it as an option and it usually does not cost any more $$$ which is a good thing. I priced one out for a customer two weeks ago and it was just over $550.00 not including monitor, keyboard, mouse or any other things that didn't need to be replaced. And no, I do not work for Dell, I just know a good deal when I see one.

You can also get brand new, legal copies of XP on line for less then a new PC would cost you.

I also understand the need to get faster, better hardware as I am in the process of upgrading all of my 7 machines at home, but NONE of them will have that abortion of an OS called Vista. I will stay with what works.

I apologize if this sounds like a rant as I don't mean it as such, but when you ask for suggestions on how to run legacy/specialty software on an OS that has so far proven to be nothing but troubles, you should expect answers like the ones that Don and I have given you.
