I echo Al's comments. I have spent a lot of time on 20m (and 15m, 40m and
80m) RTTY since the fall of 1972! First with homebuilt TU's and model 28's
from Navy MARS, through Radio Shack Model I's and Color Computers with
accompanying software changes (same old TU's on HF, "more modern" single
chip TU's on VHF) to the IBM compatible machines of the 80's and today's
sound cards. I still prefer my ST-6000, that I bought new from Hal when I
retired in 2004 and the old DOS computer with Hal's DSRTTY program. I own,
or have owned most of the Hal line and continue to use both them inmy "glass
station" to this day. I have spent many fun hours talking to Al (as W8HYG,
that W8TTY will be hard to get used to Al, hi hi) and the rest of the "gray
hair" gang that hangs out on the old autostart frequency. The only other
GreenKeyer that I have had the pleasure of QSO'ing with several times is
Russ, WA3FRP, that is so much help to machine restoration here. To shorten
a long story, don't lump all us "glass RTTY" people with the contesters.
Not all of us practice the "hit and run" tactics of the contesters. I'll
bet Al and I can rag chew any of you into the dirt, hi hi. More often, we
send CQ till we tire of it with no answer and give up to do other pursuits.
Whatever you use, get on the air and join us!!
73,
Don, WB5HAK (NNN0BSP)
