Paul,
You can get the AR-8516 manual copy at the links below:
http://hometown.aol.com/joeee1621/myhomepage/business.html
http://www.vacuumtubes.com/vintagemanuals.html
Ford's surplus http://www.testequipmentcanada.com/r.html in Canada rents
the manuals for $10 per month (plus deposit, refunded when the manual is
returned) for self-copy.
I rented the Marconi Atalanta receiver manual from them and had Kinko copy
it double sided with binding, and with an enlarged separate copy of the
schematic for workbench use. My manual came out looking almost like the
original!
Here is a link for some nice post-WW2 German receivers, some of which I have
in my collection: http://www.boatanchors.de/ .
As to your AR-8506B - check all the tubes' filaments, as they're in series
so if one is dead, the rest won't light up either. Also, check the bypass
and filter capacitors for shorts/excessive leakage.
Good luck!
