The ST-6 did not have a scope circuit. Irv later published
a circuit using a couple of op-amps and extra toroids
to give a sharper scope display (scope supplied by the
builder). 1-inch scope tubes are hard to find, but
the 2-inch (2AP1 or 902) variety is still available
(try Fair Radio).
Of course, you never know what you might find on Ebay.
You can get a complete 5-inch oscilloscope for peanuts.
Nothing like being able to tune in a RTTY signal
from across the room! Witht hat 5-inch scope, your
shack looks like somethig out of a 1950's "B" movie
(remember the "Interrocitor"?).
Millen sold a very nice 1-inch scope module that was
similar to the one used in the ST6000 (but the ST6000
scope module is not the Millen version).
Many years ago a friend gave me a 1-inch scope tube he found
in Radio Row in NYC. It had a schematic of the pinouts.
I built my first RTTY tuning scope with it. It was
mounted in an 8 3/4 rack panel because the power supply
was so big! Unfortunately, it's long gone. Nowadays
I build my scopes with 2-inch CRT's and a simple
voltage doubler power supply to get the HV needed for a nice
bright and clear display.
In the golden days of RTTY there was a phrase:
"RTTY'ers Build".
That was because you couldn't get "store bought"
RTTY terminals, etc.
Of course, things have changed...
But, some of us old-time "RTTY'ers [still] Build" because
it's fun. A lot of the fun is just trying to find the parts!
