I came across this interesting little gadget in a catalog:

B&B Electronics 232BRC baud rate converter...$199.95

It can convert 5,6,7 and 8 bit codes up and down,
ASCII to Baudot, etc., with 16K of buffer memory.
RS232 in and out.

Similar to the Black Box CAP I have, but cheaper.

To get baud rates below 300 baud, you need to do some
math to program it, but it supposedly can handle just 
about anything.
