Larry,

The Toni-Tuna (sic) was developed by Tony Oakley, G4HYD, as a simple
tuning aid. It consists of a voltage to frequency converter driving a
bar-graph LED display. When correctly tuned, an RTTY signal appears as a
group of one or two lit LEDs spaced equally about the centre of the
display. To quote from the original article in the BARTG magazine...

"It is basically an audio frequency meter, whose display is a row of 40
LEDs.... each LED represents a frequency 10Hz different from its
adjacent LEDs. The whole scale thus coveringa portion of the audio
spectrum 400Hz wide. Because each LED overlaps it is possible to r4ead
to a resolution of 5Hz."

It can be switched to cover various standard shifts in amateur use,
1275/1444, 2125/2295 etc.

I can e-mail the articles I have scanned if you win the auction and need
to know more.
