[GreenKeys] 28 KSR gibberish

Ok, all

Several folks noted that bit 3 might be sticking. Best I can tell, all the bars and levers seem not to stick. I can press lots of letters and all the bars seem to select the right character with no sticking. J. Murphy suggested the following:

"The number 3 bit selects whether the right half or the left half of the letters field prints. On your good machine, alternatley hit the E and S keys. You will see a bar alternating moving right and left in the middle of the upper half of the front plate. This bar "breaks" the appropriate horizontal drive knee link and determines whether the right or left half of the letters (or figures) field prints. Then look at the machine that is acting up. When you hit the E and S keys, the bar will likely not move. Whether the bar moves or does not move, there are some adjustments out of whack and some book time is recommended. "

Performing this experiment I can relate the following:

Seems the bar does move to the right for E and left for S on the KSR. HOWEVER! There are two pair of black pulleys that can be seen from the top. Each pair has a metal cable running over them. The rear-most pair seem to be mounted on a bar, closest to the paper. Seems on my ASR, the bar moves left/center for E and right/center for S. However, on my KSR, this bar moves only right/center for all characters. Sounds like this could be the problem. Ok, so next question. Other than studying the adjustments manual, does anything jump out as a possible cause?

Thanks again!
