It depends on how you go about spraying the ribbon. The way I do it
is to unroll the ribbon on paper towels or newspaper in ten foot
segments and spray the ribbon with either WD-40 or Lube One then
after all of the ribbon is sprayed I roll it up and put it in a
plastic bag overnight. The ribbon then will last for a week or so.
The real answer is to buy the ribbon in bulk from computer friends
and put new ribbon on the spools when it gets light. They are the
only supplier of bulk ribbon that still meets the old Bell System
specifications for Teletype machines.

Not always. This was the subject of a recent thread on one of the
phone collectors' lists in regard to rejuvenating Calculagraph
ribbons. I and others have tried the WD40 trick on those ribbons
with the same result: worked great for a very short time (no more
than a day or two) and then the ribbon dried up and was less able to
produce an image than it was before the WD40 application. In my
case, my ribbon was able to produce some faint images before I
applied the WD40. Worked great for about a day after I was sprayed
it and then after that I got no image at all from the ribbon. A
couple of other collectors had the same experience.

Tread carefully. YMMV.
