You can spray the ribbon with WD-40 to reactivate the ink. New
ribbons are available for "UNDERWOOD" typewriters on many websites
such as staples and office depot, office max, etc. The problem is
that they are thin nylon and not heavily inked.
You can also buy bulk ribbon from Computer Friends on line.

Well I started the unit up for the first time after doing some
cleaning up work. No smoke. Need a ribbon for the printer as the one
that was in it is all dried up, but at least the printer 'seems' to
work. The TD works, and in one position, it causes the perf to
work. But, the keyboard has locked up. I was able to type some to the
perf, but when I moved the switch to a different position, it
locked up. I tried moving the switch to different positions, but that
didn't help. What's the way to get unlock the keyboard?
Also, where's a good source to get new ribbons?
