Hi Keith;

Why would you want to build one - when for the
cost of the components and everything you could
get an old 386 computer and run one of the popular
communications programs?

There was a thread a while back. One of the guys
said that he had to switch his computer from
"family mode" to "RTTY" to go on the air, and
then return it to family mode when he was done.

I mentioned that an old laptop could be picked up
on eBay for under $100.oo, and desktop units even
cheaper. The salvation army has several that they
are selling for $20.oo here in town.

If you ask around chances are one of your friends
(or your kid's friends) has one sitting in the closet
just collecting dust.

You might say to your son/daughter "if you can get
your ol' man a computer, I'll throw a backyard BBQ
for you and, say, 10 of your friends".

If you act "dumb" enough you might even get them
to image it with a fresh copy of the O/S!

speed converters were common. Some were built into the
FSK converter and some were seperate. Does anyone have
one of the seperate units either homebrew or commercial
or a construction article about the same.
