This AM Tom Tillson was generous enough to come by my qth and take a look at my tty issues. Here's what we accomplished

1. got some light bulbs for my end-of-line indicators for KSR and ASR

2. fixed the cover latch on my 28 asr so it now stays closed

3. lubed everything on my 28 ASR and KSR with oil or grease (I mean everything!)

4. On the KSR that was grunting, Tom showed me how to measure and adjust the clutch. VERY interesting stuff! He also showed me the part of the manual (and which manual) that covers this stuff. Apparently on my ksr keyboard clutch, the gap was too large. We compared with my asr (which is working well) and closed the gap a few hairs. And voila! Grunting solved!

5. Printing gibberish: For those following along at home, you may recall that I had discovered that bit 3 was not working as intended, RY came out CY. With several greenkey folks help, I discovered that the "Horizontal Motion Reversing Slide" partno. 152595 was only moving right, not left (I might have that backward, but you get the idea). Upon further inspection, I discovered the following: a) that I have an older style printing unit using tension springs instead of torsion springs and b) that might right-most tension spring had sprung:

To my utter amazement, Tom was able to take a spring from his bag of tricks and fashioned a replacement spring! Unfortunately, the spring was not quite strong enough to totally solve the problem, but now I get many more RYs than CYs so its a great start. Anyone out there have part number: 152724 ?

6. Tom replaced my entire motor with one from his stock and that should solve the motor rocking situation. Tom had with him a 1/20th HP motor to replace the ASR 1/12th HP motor, and quite frankly, it seems to make no difference. Perhaps if I had more goodies hanging off the motor like an under-dome reperf or some other stuff the higher powered motor might be needed.

So all in all, it was a tremendously successful day. Only problem left is, my reperf on the 28 asr will not reset when I move to KT or T. Tom saw this odd behavior and will give it some thought. I seems I am missing part 159880 and its not clear what cam I have on the k/kt/t knob. MORE TO COME!

On another subject, just picked up 3 ST-6's on ebay for $60. The are all different, one looks VERY early, even earlier than the one I've been using. You can see more here: ebay item# 9734341186

I got the bunch for the rack-mount case and, perhaps, a working auto-start board (mine doesnt work for some reason). If I can get one more complete ST-6 out of the three, I'll be very happy and will most likely sell of the remainder, perhaps some folks out there need some boards?

Well, thats enough for now. Thanks to EVERYONE on greenkeys for all the help and direction. Watching Tom tackle that keyboard clutch really gave me some important knowledge and courage to do other things. Special super-thanks to you, Tom. You went way out of your way to help a poor old afflicted greenkeyer! (now its onto my reperf issue)

Eugene
