Remember RTTYArt, the WindowsXP friendly software that will capture BAUDOT
or ASCII and save it to a file, as well as display the picture or text on
the screen with overstrike capability?
A principal engineer for the Thales Aerospace T45 program decided to use
RTTYArt because they were investigating software packages for use on low
data rate Baudot code. The Thales naval communications systems offering for
surface ships, shore stations, aircraft and submarines is based on a range
of proven, fully qualified products including the HF 6000 series, HF modems,
the Thomrad 6000 range of V/UHF systems, the VLF digital receiver and
wireless communication systems. Their system, using the solutions
implemented in the communication systems of the French-Italian Horizon
frigates and the British T45 frigates, opens promising perspectives for
future bids to naval forces in Europe and world-wide. Thales has been
retained by the United Arab Emirates for its entire naval communications
program, which involves the procurement of latest-generation communications
systems for all the Navy's surface ships. The systems will rely on secure
multi-service networks supporting the whole range of shipboard
communications and providing access to external HF and V/UHF transmissions.
The serial interface card used is MOXA CP-134U-I V2 which is claimed to be
16550 compatible, the hardware serial configuration is RS422. The only
communication format required is 100 Baudot, 5 data bits, no parity, 1.5
stop bits and no flow control. The combination of serial card and RTTYArt
capture tool software worked well.
They say of course the use of the RTTYArt capture tool will be for naval
purposes only. I forgot to ask for which navy.
