The interest in the Harris dooms day rig, seems overwhelming...
FYI... more background info...
I had purchased it about 25 years ago; always wanted to own a commercial full
gallon, but simply have never had the time to devote to it.
Somehow I came up with a full factory manual for it, and my QTH has moved
twice since purchasing it. And I realize now, that within the balance of my life
time (perhaps 20-25 years) I may not be able to allocate the time to put it
into service.
It is stored in a borrowed 12 or 14 large animal goose neck horse trailer,
which is packed to the gills with electronic equipment I felt I might have an
eventual use for.
I guestimate it would take two guys a full day to empty this trailer, and
reload the equipment into a more permanent box van style trailer which I own, and
am not borrowing.
As another ham described, earlier... This unit was apparently a complete
communications package, but it deviates from his description slightly, as it
seemed to be vertical antenna oriented, as I have not seen a log periodic beam,
simply a fiber glass vertical.
Prior to my purchasing the unit someone ahead of me liberated the motorized
remote mount vertical ATU. the unit seems to have low hours on it. The manuals
Harris printed indicate that the item is a 2 - 30 MHz capable rig, but is
xtal controlled transmit and receive on 8 switch selectable frequencies of your
desire. The tuning of each stage is by gang switch selected preset L/C tuning
clusters.
I would guess that it was manufactured in the 70's.
I paid $1,000 for the outfit as I have described. It was functional when
purchased, and it did make power into a dummy load using the factory pre-tuned
frequencies.
Were an interested individual to offer me my original investment in
depreciated dollars, I would consider the offer seriously, otherwise I would consider a
shared interest arrangement?
I recognize I will perhaps never [in the balance of my lifetime], have the
quality time to spend on the item, but I would enjoy seeing it back on the air.
So if someone with better time management capabilities than myself came
forward with a sincere desire to get the item back on line... I am sure we could
work something out.
I guess I would retain visiting rights, and occasional operating rights at
his respective QTH.
73's guys and thanks for the interest.
