There is a lot of RTTY every day on 20M even when the sunspots are very low
or zero.
Most activity is centered at 14.085 MHz +/- 5 KHz. You will sometimes hear
RTTY stations either below 14080 MHz or above 14090 MHz but this is mostly
during weekend RTTY contests. On the East Coast of the US, I regularly hear and
work Europe and Africa in the morning (at about 1500 UTC) and again in the
afternoon (at about 2100 UTC). There is NA and SA activity during daylight
hours. There is a station in Columbia on the air right now at 14.084 MHz.
During the month of February, I was able to work the following new countries
on RTTY:
Somalia, Kaliningrad, Senegal, Peter I Island (very rare!), Sint Maarten,
and Montserrat.
I am usually transmitting at 14084.1 MHz. You can see who else is
transmitting by going to one of the Cluster sites on the Internet. My favorite website
for RTTY activity is oh2aq dot kolumbus dot com forward-slash dxs
forward-slash digi dot html You will see the callsign of the spotting station followed
by the frequency of the spotted station followed by the callsign of the
spotted station followed by the time (in UTC) and the date.
One station to look for over the next few days will be 8R1ZUM from Guyana.
He should be spotted starting today and ending around March 7.
If anyone has additional questions, you can write to me on or off the list.
