[GreenKeys] New here ... info on Teletype 31?

Evan,

I do not have pricing information going back that far. A similar
printer was used with the KLB-47 Cryptographic System and was
somewhat lighter but that is another story. I know of no smaller or
lighter Teletype machine in that period of 1947 through 1959. The
last printing terminals made by AT&T in Singapore were the 5310 and
the 5320 dot-matrix terminals, these would have been somewhat lighter
but the vintage is 1986-1996.

Someone else on the list that worked for Teletype may know greater
details.

Okay, again, that's very helpful to me.

Were any other models even lighter / smaller? Or was the 31 the most
compact one they ever made? Also, when exactly was it sold? I've heard
"1950s" in general but it would helpful to know the actual years,
approximate price, etc.

If I find the photo of the one in the case I will send it to you.
Compared to other Teletype equipment the 31 is very light. I am
guessing
now as both of our 31s are in California, but about 20 pounds with
the outer
carrying case, and about 15 pounds without the outer carrying case.

Anyone happen to know how much it weighed? "Portable" is a relative

Don -- thanks for the photo.

The 31 was multi-functional. In addition to military use, the
machine was
also carried to sporting and other news events to transmit to
newspapers.
The machine in the photo I sent to Evan is powered by 115vac and has
spare
sets of gears for operating at 60, 67, and 75 wpm. Some of the
machines had
semi-weatherproof carrying cases. A few receive only M31s were used as
crypto printers.

Teletype Model 31 is TT-30/AGA-1, a 28VDC operated airborne set. At
least
one of the list members has one.
