And 11 times out of 10, the technique doesn't work, anyway.  Either you'll 
cross-thread the screw or you'll break a corner off of the screw, or you'll lose 
the screw.  $15.00 is about two cheap hamburgers.  And a lot cheaper than a 
ruined PL-55 or PL-68.
