[GreenKeys] Announcing Auto-Pix

Hello everyone.

Having started with RTTY in the 1950's, I eventually ran across WA6PIR
sending a RTTY picture. I was immediately hooked and slowly my pix
collection grew.

Sometime in the 80's, I became acquainted with Walt Bess, K8LC. Walt had
written two DOS programs, Auto-RTTY and Auto-Pix. By accessing his
Auto-Pix system, I was able to download many pix. My collection is now
over 1500, about half the pix in existence.

Walt has generously given me these two programs. I have installed
Auto-Pix and loaded all 1500 pix. I thought it would be fun to see if
anyone would be interested in accessing my Auto-Pix system and
resurrecting some interest in RTTY pix. Once logged on, one can obtain a
sub-directory listing, a listing of the pix files on those
sub-directories (about 28 pix per sub-directory), change
sub-directories, download a file, get fills for a file, find size of
files, and other functions. A complete list of system commands is
available once you are logged on. A good idea would be to print that
list for easy reference. Where there is a choice between # and ? in a
command string, please use the ?

Initially, the system will be available on 14.092 at 45.45 baud (60WPM)
from 9am to 6pm PDT on Saturday and Sunday. I am very active in RTTY
contesting, so the system will not be on during contest weekends. I will
post non-operating weekends here on the reflector. Anyway, the
contesting congestion would make reliable pix copy impossible. Power
will be about 500 watts, beaming east from my Northridge (Los Angeles)
location.
If 14.092 is on someone's net frequency that I'm not aware of, please
advise. You will need to be quite accurate on 14.092 to call up the system.

The callup code is: CR/LF PIXHGF CR/LF and drop your carrier. If
you are on frequency and the propagation gods are with you, the system
will advise how to log on.

Subject to users thoughts, the system can easily operate at 75 baud (100
WPM) and perhaps the system can be put on 40 or 80 meters some evenings
for more "local" area users, or whatever upon request.

Many pix are overlined and will look messy on your monitor. Those
printing on 15, 19, or 28's should be able to print overlined pix
correctly provided line feed on carriage return is suppressed. I am able
to print overlined pix correctly on an HP 870Cse Deskjet printer using
Auto-RTTY, the companion program to AutoPix.

Pix titles don't always indicate the subject matter. The numbering
scheme is as follows.

Cartoon 000
Cartoon 100
Land, Sea, Statues, Ships 200
Distaff 300
Paintings, Sculpture, Portraits 400
Holiday 500
Animals, Birds 600
Emblems and Logo's 700
Vehicles 800
Miscellaneous 900

Hopefully Auto-Pix will be of interest to some of you. Please let me
know your thoughts either here on the reflector or direct to dougn1 at mac.com.

Auto-Pix will be available starting Sunday April 23 from 9AM-6PM PDT.
Have fun!
