HARVEY YOU ARE A WONDER.
I TOOK THE TUBE SOCKET AND MOUNTED TWO IN4007 DIODES IN PLACE OF THE TUBE 
ELEMENTS.  THE FAX MACHINE NOW POWERS UP.
