Hi Sellam and John:

OK, presuming your M32 uses a powered loop, up to 120VDC, at 20-mA, you
should be able to use the TTY232-TAP gizmo I am sending you. It plugs into
the DB9-M serial port on a PC, and has about 10 feet of lamp cord for
connecting to your M32 TTY loop in half-duplex mode. Loop polarity does
not matter. If you need it to handle 60-mA, you will need to open it up
and solder a connection (contact me for info).

Requirements on your serial port: The TAP unit derives switching power
from the serial port. It is happiest when RTS and DTR are driven to
opposite levels. I don't know whether HeavyMetal has a way to force these
lines to active (positive) and inactive (negative) levels, but I just tried
the HM version I have on an old win98 machine, and it worked just fine with
this TAP unit.

Further requirements on your serial port: I would use a desktop machine,
so HM can drive the serial port in 5-bit mode. I predict a laptop and
USB-serial adapter will cause you grief.

The TAP will be there tomorrow morning -- fedex track # 7901-7597-8320.

have fun,

gil
