I bet he was not the senior most one there!

I had a short lesson in repainting transformers and their shells this 
weekend from an experienced restorer. On the advice of a painter, he used 
paint thinner on a rag to get all fingerprints and "stuff" off the 
about-to-be-painted things.  Seems like something similar would apply to 
the patch cord plugs.
