I've been using the Dataproducts R3300 ribbons for a while now with no  
problems, so I think we can safely look elsewhere for the solution to your  problem.
 
The first thing to do is to check the level under the typebox - you will  
have to open the machine cover to see this - there is a lever that is  marked " 1 
2 3" that is used to adjust  for 1, 2, or 3 part forms.  It  adjusts the 
impact force of the typepallet against the platen.  Make  sure that this is set to 
1.  
 
The other thing to do is to remove the typebox and give it a good  cleaning.  
Start by off the excess ink with a paper towel.   You can also brush the 
typepallets clean with an old toothbrush to get all of  the dirt and dried ink out 
of the crevices.
