I have three of those beasts. The first one came with the gooey-glop
option and it took a week to clean it out. I replaced the rollers with
some heavy duct tape and it fed the paper fine. I also was able to find
a manual (still in the plastic wrapping and shipped from Germany (!)).
The machine eventually ran, and then the power supply blew up.
This was a "plain" 74. The next two were V3's and they worked
right out of the box (so to speak). The rollers were OK and the
power supplies seemed to be alive. I have found the 74 to be a
very good stepstool when trying to reach things on the top shelf of
the junkroom. It is also useful for holding up the car when doing
oil changes.
Finally, if the goverment was smart, they'd
collect all of the 74's and drop them from B52's on Iraq and other
similarly-suspicious places. It would save us suckers from a
lot of work....
I found that they were built by a company in Florida, I
think the name was TRACON. I actually tracked them down and
spoke to someone about the machine. They seemed to have
developed short memories and couldn't recall any details.
The UGC74's also seem to be popular TTY's on other
planets...watch for them on "Stargate". Maybe that's our
strategy to conquer other worlds...give them UGC74's.
Now the UGC 129 is a totally different story....
