I just checked my ST-6 that is on 24 x 7. I'm running a 60 ma loop  too. The 
back panel at and around the rheostat isn't even warm. Is that  where you are 
checking or are you checking inside the ST-6 case?   Is  the rheostat making a 
good mechanical connection?
