Very early Model 28ASR's did not have the "hatch door" on the
lefthand top of the machine. This is the door that gives access to the
auxiliary reperf, if installed, in later models. I wonder if anyone has
one of those machines/cabinets? I've never seen one, except for pictures
in early Teletype Corp. documents (maybe they never produced that variation?).
It's also interesting thatthe "Mark I" 28 typing units wouldn't fit into a
28ASR because they had an extension on the leftside frontplate that
interfered with the keyboard perforator.
The 28's were introduced to the Navy around 1953, with the Teletype
press release saying "the Model 28 might eventually replace the Model 15".
