Tnx, Roy, jhaines (separate post) and all,

the tube socket idea and the phone socket idea sure sounds like a
winner.... the pins for contacts are basically, tube pin size,
and the index pegs are the same size as 1/4 in phone plugs. I really
think that they will actually lock in place with the same
bend which exists in phone jacks as well, and if they don't , that's ok,
because I don't feel as if, for the purpose for which we are going to
use them, they are going to be subject to vibration, shock, or any other
forces which will tend to displace them from the socket. (Unless, that
is, one lives in CA, or the Pacific Rim, that is --hi--_

Actually, I was going to mount mine on a relatively thick A; sheet.
whoch was mounted to the rack chassis with shockmounts, so the relays
would be dynamincally isolated from everything... amy motion would be
damped by the shockmounts and by the wiring friom the relay contacts to
whatever terminal strip or other jack strip I so choose to install.

Even in the military, I never used one heck of a lot of polar relays,
virtually all of the stuff was neutral, and what wasn't, such
as the input conversion of carrier/muz units did the conversion
electronically, they were still nice to have on the board, and we did
keep them set, the contacts burnished, and set with the proper at rest
pole gap and zweo ( 0 ) bias. It also gave one something to do on the
midwatch so nobody could claim one was just "goofing off", even if I
was the supervisor of the watch, aqnd the Faxilities Controller. I
hated just sitting there waiting for alarms to go off, so, adjusting
things could pleasantly occupy any amount of time/ I never did
particularly listen to those who said that said preventative
maintenance was "Beneath my Rate/Rank". It was always a given in my
mind that Teletype machines always needed
cleaning/inspection/lubrication/adjusting, as they were one cycle away
from catastrrophic failure --hi--.

OPNOTE: I also used to race at lightspeed to grab any messages which
just might come in on CW circuits as well, I was,
after all, a qualified Speed Key op (CLF-23), and to be further
selfish, since I was crypto op/repair, one of the 5 "chosen ones" on
the access list for offline with the "higher than God" clearance. , it
only made sense, right?????? What was I supposed to do. drag someone
else out of the rack at 0 dark 30 ? I think not.....since I had to
break 'em I may as welll copy 'em so there wouldn't be any
mistakes... I really don't see any faulty logic in this... If someone
else wanted to copy alongside, well, there was a mill and a chair open,
and they were welcom to do as they wished --hi--...

Please, keep me informed of your progress with the socket (s). I will do
the same, so we don't wind up reinventing the wheel.
This sounds like a real winner, and an inexpensive, readily available,
and exceedingly workable idea/ Thanks much for bringing
it to my ( amd the Greenkeyers group) attention ///GW
