Guys,
Some random data:
The TT-4 is the "portable" version of the TT-100 they have identical
mechanisms.
The TT-100 is also known as civilian model 150. Note that it is 15 with an
extra zero. Although there is no documentation to support the similarity it
seems logical since the same guy was a key engineer on both.
The TT-4 and the M15 they both suffer the same fate; forget to keep the felt
clutches lubricated and you are up a creek. The felt they burns, operation
is erratic and they are a nightmare until the felt is replaced.
The key technology differences between the M15 and TT-4 are:
1. Cast iron vs. Magnesium frame - lighter weight for portable us.
2. 60 wpm vs. 100 wpm- enabled by double lobe cams and running the shafts at
half speed.
3. Different selector mechanisms due to patent ownership.
4. The prototype M15 came out in the 1920s the TT-4 was 1948.
Doesn't mean one is better then the other just thought you would like to
know.
Tom

In 1964 I had a TT4 and a model 15. The tt4 was a bear to keep running and
the 15 kept ticking. In fact I still have the 15 - was sitting under my
work bench for 10 years and a good friend cleaned it and oiled it and it
still works great. I do not have the tt4. I think the TT4 was a field
machine - lighter and disposable!!

Does anybody have any idea how the Army TT-4A/TG compares with a
Teletype brand machine in terms of performance and reliability?
Thanks!
