HI!
Name is Mike, WB5MYY in Dallas, TX. I have been inactive in any
electromechanical ham mode for about 25 years. I think I may have caught
the bug again, so I signed up on the list. Plus, I have a couple of
other ideas I'd like to try out using a TTY as a printer.
I have a question regarding my own situation, and then a suggestion
regarding messages I just read RE the C.M.A.
First,
I would like to purchase a tabletop (no integral stand) 28 or similar. A
unit with a keyboard would be nice, but I am mainly interested in
printing. I would rather pay a few extra bucks for a good working unit
in need of little or no rework rather than trying to save a few bucks
buying a fixer-upper. I'm not afraid of mechanical work, but I don't
have the experience to handle a basket case or anything even close to it.
So, other than eBay, where do you go looking for ads for TTYs!?!
Second, the C.M.A.
disclaimer - You guys on the west coast won't *even* like this
suggestion, but IMHO this beats all that history ending up in a
dumpster, or sold off to a few individuals such that the public would
never be able to see it again.
There are a couple of other good, well established computer museums in
the US, notably the one in Boston, MA. I have donated some boat anchor
pieces to them, and they have been very appreciative. Now, I realize
that breaks up a very nice installation. But, as I said, at least that
would enable both hams and non-hams to see at least part of the
equipment, to appreciate the history and the contribution it made to
telecommunications.
Just an idea. No flame wars, please.
Anyway, anybody who can offer some suggestions RE equipment sources, I'd
really appreciate it.
73,
Mike
