Bob Camp suggested that Creed carriages were slow.
I have a couple of Creed 7B machines in regular use, and they are no slower
than any other machine. In fact their not-so-well designed shock absorber
when worn (like mine) gives little protection to the carriage and its roll
of paper, racing back with a resounding crash, but nevertheless before the
arrival of the first character, and this is on the faster 50 baud 66wpm
speed. Even when the signal is coming from tape or a prepared message from
an electronic teleprinter (Sagem) there is no problem.
A neighbour has a Teletype 15 which is slow, and we reached the conclusion
the return spring was not wound up tight enough, but it was not worth the
trouble to adjust it.
