  Gene - I had this problem - traced it to too-high audio levels coming out 
of Winamp into MMTTY.  Lowering the 'gain' of the EQ section (and lowering 
some of the sliders, like 60 htz and 14Khtz) cleaned this problem up for 
me.

   Perhpas you could look at the levels in the Windows Audio Control Panel, 
too...
