GreenKeyers - - -

"Project Central" will be down Today. There are some technical issues
that need resolving.

I have installed an encoder which does the low sample rates, and it
seems to work fine.

The tone source or else the sound card in the computer seem to have gone
west, in a peculiar way.

Using the old encoder things sounded good,no hum or side tones.

When starting and configuring the new encoder the system exhibits a very
noticable sidetone, and the keying signal introduces "keying clicks"
even with no audio present.

I am beginning to feel that the issue has to do with a possibly flaky
wall-wart which powers the CP-1, or else something to do with the
"grounding issue" which has been another recent thread on Greenkeys.

I have some plumbing supplies to acquire this morning, meaning a trip to
Bremerton, where I will visit a couple of sources and try and find an
audio isolation transformer. I don't think Cell-Phone Shack here in town
has anything of that ilk, anymore.

I'll probably drag in one of my Harris rf-3352 Teletype Terminals
(Really Fancy AFSK Tone Generator and TU) which puts out tones so
precise it's not funny, and try it. It has one of those filters found in
the Dovetrons, so I am going to have to assemble things a piece at a
time and check for grounds and AC. I went through that once with WC2XPF,
Where the Viking Amp was 60 volts above ground, unless a good solid
earth ground was attached. I know the story well, as a "frying problem"
occurred at that time. (made me fill like Ted Bundy the instant they
threw the switch).

More later,

George - W7TTY
