[GreenKeys] New Project

Hi everyone.

I'm new to greenkeys, but I could'nt resist responding to this note. I'm
just getting back into RTTY heavy hardware like I used to run in the 70's.
Since my tapes where getting fragile in the 80's I played my tapes and ran
the tones to a reel to reel tape deck and recorded them. When I played them
back it worked great. Now I'll have to hunt for the tapes. Wherever they
are, they have the old pictures that I used to print on my 28ASR (Anyone
know where I can find one of those again?) such as Andy Capp, pretty girls,
the Enterprise, etc.

I recently found a HAL ST-6 and got it going, along with a model 28 printing
reperf and what I think is a model 15 TD. I just need a keyboard and
print. (refuse to use the software stuff for now, I want the real thing)

Good to find you guys.
Jim Weston

Subject: Re: [GreenKeys] New Project

A while back ago, when we were all discussing the best ways to "save" our
RTTY art for posterity, I made a suggestion that we simply convert to an
digital audio file and note the shift and speed. I still think this could be
viable. Afterall, even if mp3 goes the way of the dodo, one could convert to
the new audio format of choice. Heck, if necessary one can always store on
audio CD or even tape!

Lester, if you could run your tapes through a TD and a TU and record the
output, I could convert and put the files as mp3 up on my website to test
the idea. If George wanted to make them available for the new project, I
could give them to him. But it might be a neat test in the interim. Anyone
with winamp or even windows media player (or any mp3 player) could play
them.

Here's an extension of the idea. Imagine collecting a lot of old news tapes
and organizing them by year (each directory could be one year). Then one
could even make a playlist to dump all the stories for that year, or you
couldAnd yet another idea: Imagine setting up a demonstration somewhere...
One could load these mp3's onto an ipod or any one of a number of personal
music players. Then run that into a TU and voila! Instant recreation of a
historical news moment!

Any way, just some random thoughts...
Eugene
