GreenKeyers - - -

Thanks to all those who have sent notes.

I admit to not having ANYTHING running to copy with. The past few days
have been devoted to just getting a signal out there through this pile
of cables, routers, etc.

The modem here has a number of features such as DHCP, Port Forwarding,
Etc. I had a Linksys router fed by the modem, and the two just don't get
along.

Right now there is a D-Link switch between the modem and the network,
and with a bit of port forwarding in the modem, it began to play.

One comment about live news...

The signal is not coming from a looped sound file. The keying source at
this time is my Data-Tech 9600 Data Source and Analyzer feeding RS-232
into the modified AEA CP-1 that I used for WC2XPF. The CP-1 is in turn
fed into the input of the sound card in the server, which has the WinAmp
5.08 and the Shoutcast Cheapie Encoder. What you hear is essentially
live, save for the rather large buffer that WinAmp has in it.

I will stop by my storeroom and dig out the old broadcast computer,
which has Bill's RTTY App in it, and a large pile of the files sent over
WC2XPF. I will put several hours of those files into RTTY App, so there
will be at least something to copy other then Fox.

I will dig out MMTTY and put it on the other Laptop and see what I can
copy, although with the crummy dial-up line here, I don't get a very
fast connection, so it hics and burps as opposed to a steady FSK signal.

Admittedly this is all experimental. I just got bored waiting for other
things to happen around here (like the completion of our new 24 x 40
2-story shop building with my wifes 24 x 26 Sewing Room upstairs.)(I get
the downstairs) so I started messing with this project.

The audio I hear when I monitor locally has some artifacts in it which I
think can be attributed to the low bitrate. Ideally I would like this
scheme to work with a 14.4 dial-up connection, so those who do not have
the luxury of DSL or Cable can still have a useable signal to feed
whatever receiving arrangement they have.

Right now I gotta take off to Bremerton and buy a sewage pump controller
for the new building. To save some money I am doing the electrical and
plumbing, and have to scrounge the stuff up to do it. There is about 150
feet of conduit in the lower floor slab, and when the outer shell is on
I get to go through what will seem like miles of Romex, dozens of outlet
boxes, lighting track, etc.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed with the TTY project will be
welcomed. As Chuck Swiger pointed out, the idea is not original, but
dammit, somebody has to do something. It beats getting poked in the eye
with a sharp stick!!!

George - W7TTY
