Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't. It's been a while since I
verified this, but as I recall, the auto CR/LF thingee in the stunt box
ignores CR and executes a CR & LF on receipt of LF (and automatically at
the end of the line). For pictures with overstrike, that's a MAJOR
problem. It's been a while since I had them on the air, but my 3 M28s
are all set up different. Between them, normally at least one will
receive correctly. The three are (if I remember which is which):
Machine Unshift on space Auto CR/LF
M28ASR Yes No Has secondary reperf
M28KSR No No Has 3 speed transmission
M28RO No Yes In soundproof cabinet
You probably want to enable unshift on space on each machine. It generally
just a screwdriver adjustment on the right side of the stunt box (when you
are facing the keyboard) and under the paper roll. I have detailed
instructions if anyone needs them.
Auto CR/LF is accomplished in two parts.
The first part is technically called non-overline. This is done by
exchanging the universal code bars in the stunt box in slots 5 and 38. It's easy as
no new parts are needed. But, it does mess up some RTTY Art.
The second part is called auto CR-LF needs a "zero" code bar, mod kit is
157514, and a couple of uncoded universal code bars.
It's great when unshift on space, non-overline and auto CR/LF are installed.
If you are on-the-air copying or working stations, especially DX, and
signal levels are low or there is QSB.
